Today we are looking back at an absolute roller coaster of a time capsule. I have compiled a huge selection of old school RPG commercials for your viewing pleasure. These aren't comprehensive, they're not chronological, and I a...

I think a lot of people also want a remake of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. But a Shining Force Remake is definitely on the top list.

I'm not sure about the Master System version, but upgrading the shield in the arcade version actually reduces the pushback from getting hit by projectiles and even enemies.

I did a Wonder Boy marathon a year ago, where I beat all Wonder Boy and Monster World games (well, one version of each mainline entry - three Master System games, three Genesis games and Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom on Steam). Those platforms in the final dungeon were by far the hardest part of the marathon, and probably worst as well. Either way, I still love the game.

"I had a Sega Master System." I see you too were a man of culture. 🧐 To answer the question in the title, it was perfect. Like, Homelander meme perfect. This was one of those games I got up after everyone went to bed and played all night with the sound off, making maps out of graph paper. I played this game so much, I can probably do it blindfolded. You can't begin to imagine the physical reaction I had when the Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap remake launched. I'm pretty sure everything in my life got significantly less satisfying after that moment. This video absolutely made my day. Thank you, Richard. Keep doing these Wonder Boy videos, or else I'll tie you to a chair and force you to beat Miracle Warriors.

PSIII also comes off as unfinished. A year more development and it might have been much better. Also, the tech system is bad. The idea behind Generations is really good, but the execution is not.

As for the fan translation "feeling" like Working Designs, well, that was the point. Our group was/is (no longer there) called "Dynamic-Designs" and we were fans of WD. The script writer really favored WD writing style so we let WildBill sort of... run wild. 🤠

Not only did the Shining Force 1 and 2 artist pass away, but also the artist that did Shining Force Gaiden and 3, who was also the artist behind Golden Sun. Golden Sun, by the way, was my introduction to JRPGs (Besides Pokémon Red) so making my way back to games like Alundra or Shining Force and finding any kind of similarity, even something so minor and random as the icon based menus or the presence of healing herbs over potions was sort of surreal

I love the Wild Arms series, but in particular, Wild Arms 3 rules. I hope you'll take a look at it at some point. I'm typically not a Western fan (despite living in Texas almost 20 years), but I dig that game and it's great use of cell shading.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. I really like the pre war scenes where the characters talk about their future plans, but it's sort of an awkward conversation, because none of them know if they will make it. The music was phenomenal, especially one of the final tracks. Really moved me!

Picked up this game as a kid on sale for 20 bucks at the local game store after school. Took it home and lost myself in it. Played all 3 story arcs and got all 5 endings multiple time. Figured out how to dominate the sharkings by manipulating the A.P. and using gang tactics. Figured out how to level up the X.P. to get really high results when dodging. I can actually get through the late levels without taking a single casualty. I actually tracked down the official working designs strategy guide which I still own and is still in near mint condition with the stickers in the back intact. Even wrote some of my own fan fiction based on the world of Eptina. It's a weird guilty to pleasure to have but I personally LOVE this game. It was the first RTS game I ever owned I actually played for the first on the PS2. I never owned a PS1. Thanks for doing something to keep the game relevant even if only to an obscure capacity.

I am kind of glad I didn't buy this game now. I know Suikoden has some minigames that could annoy me, but at least those minigames are simple enough and easy to just get through to get new characters. I am in the bracket of people who despise minigames, because I can not be bothered to learn them to do side activities when I could just skip them. A big reason why I never played any final fantasy games. Especially 7. It has too many minigames in the story and I don't know how much I'm allowed to screw up in order to just continue the story and get past it. I do like fishing in my RPGs, but only if it's doable without breaking your hands. Ys 8 comes to mind. I did catch all of the fishies even though they literally almost broke my hands. But yeah, I miss OG Suikoden. I don't think Eyiuden is bad, but I just hate minigames too much. I want the option to skip it. Gonna play more Trails now.

Eiyuden Chronicle is a remarkable game crafted with evident passion. I've invested over 120 hours into it, and I'm impressed by the quality achieved despite budget constraints. The graphics stand out as some of the most beautiful in the current generation. The mini-games are engaging, particularly the card battles, which consumed 20 hours of my playtime alone. The difficulty strikes a good balance - challenging enough to require thought but not insurmountable. However, the one-on-one battles prove exceptionally difficult due to the need for precise button choices based on less transparent opponent dialogue cues, unlike in Suikoden. In contrast, the army battles are relatively easy, likely due to their scripted nature, especially the final confrontation where many enemy units defect to your side. Overall, Eiyuden Chronicle offers a deep, enjoyable experience that surpasses expectations given its development limitations. Thank you, Murayama-san and the team at Rabbit & Bear Studios.

Weird, I don't think I ever lost a duel. Maybe one time. But agree that they're the worst combat format by far. I also didn't love the strategy combat. I felt that both of these were better in 3/4/5. I actually really liked 4's ship combat.

The story was for me a huge letdown. It felt like a watered-down Suikoden experience. It didn't help that they made this game kids friendly, because the writing was a bit more mature for Suikoden 1 & 2.

I'm a huge suikoden fan and also backed this on Kickstarter. Haven't finished yet but having an absolute blast with it, my only major gripe is how the unite attacks often feel weaker than just attacking
